Information on Seminars
Organizational
Training
At AMI, we offer several seminars
for groups, camps and institutions. The advantages
are cost effective instruction and group development.
These seminars can be instructed at your location
and tailored for your organization’s needs.
Organizational Judgment and Risk Management
Training
Beyond protocols, how do we
make decisions while leading trips? Effective
risk management requires a blending of protocols
with a dose of judgment behind the decision
making process. These seminars explore the process
by which experts have been making decisions
using heuristics or general principles, and
create a model for better understanding and
utilization of the decision making process.
All decisions require judgment and this seminar
provides you with the knowledge, skills, and
a program to develop better judgment in your
staff. Risk management is more than protocols;
it is also about good judgment.
Level One Judgment
Training:
The Level One training seminar focuses on laying
the foundation of the Judgment Cycle. This training
presents the three components of the Judgment
Cycle: situational awareness, decision points,
action, and how to avoid misleading perceptions
and biases. The Judgment Cycle is taught with
ample time for discussion and activities. During
this time, staff will develop an understanding
of situational awareness, focusing on the human
equation and objective reality. Participants
will learn guidelines for effective decision-making
and how to execute decisions. Questions answered
include: what are the critical components to
observe in the participants, and how can I use
the decision guideline to take actions that
are more effective? This session concludes with
instruction on how to keep a judgment journal
and how to structure debriefs for judgment development.
Level Two Judgment
Training:
Level Two training takes to the field. The training
goes into the field and combines the judgment
cycle with technical execution. Staff groups
will participate in organized simulations and
then follow up with structured debriefs. This
fieldwork with the judgment cycle will stimulate
the mental processing needed to make better
observations and reduce biases that block good
decision making.
