Matt Christie
is one of the most enthusiastic climbing partners
you can have, a quality many will appreciate.
Matt brings a wide variety of experiences and
a personal philosophy that embodies just simply
enjoying life. Whether he is fly fishing, kayaking,
climbing or simply in the woods, Matt will take
in as much as possible from the experience.
He can challenge himself on V8 boulder problems,
and take time to enjoy the view. Anyone climbing
with Matt will quickly get a sense of his passion
for the wilderness and his deep commitment for
sharing this with others. The only quality that
surpasses Matt’s passion is his humility.
His modest nature will make anyone feel comfortable.
For 16 years Matt has explored all facets of
climbing. He has led routes traditional routes,
sport routes, and aid routes and has conquering
many boulder problems. Recently he impressively
won the Triple Crown Bouldering competition
in the advanced category. He has developed the
technical skills and power to climb the challenging
modern boulder problems. However, his experience
does not stop there. Matt has climbed big wall
routes in Yosemite, including Native Son on
El Cap and the Leaning Tower. The ultimate climb
was an expedition to the Vampire Spires in Canada
where Matt put up a first ascent called After
School Special VI 5.10 A3+.
Matt is a graduate of Warren Wilson College
with a degree in Outdoor Leadership. He has
extensive experience leading a variety of programs.
Matt is Wilderness First Responder certification,
and has extensive training from a variety of
programs. At Warren Wilson, Matt completed the
Top Rope Site training.
Matt lives in Swannanoa with Cassie and his
dog Cora. When he is not pulling down on boulders,
he can be found hiking around the woods or fly
fishing beautiful mountain streams.
