Philosophy
AMI offers several courses for those interested in learning the skills necessary for a safe and exciting climbing adventure.  At AMI, we strive to produce courses that not only present current, safe and efficient climbing techniques, but are instructed in a format that promotes understanding and retention of the material, so you can implement the concepts in your climbing.  We want you to understand the why behind techniques so you can make effective decisions when faced with novel situations. 

Course Format
All courses are small ratio for personal instruction, but at a reduced cost to private instruction.  Each participant will receive materials to take home and review to enhance the experience, to facilitate use in your future climbing experiences.  AMI recommends that each participant bring and use his or her personal equipment, however equipment will be available for use if needed. 

The courses are sequenced through a progressive instructional model. Each course instructs on themes that build upon a foundation. You will see the common themes of: fundamental skills, belay management, protection systems, ascending, descending, and rescue skills. Each new course adds a different dimension on each theme, starting with Rock Intro and following through to Expert Rock.

Private Instruction
Some individuals learn best with one on one instruction. If you want private instruction, all of the courses can be instructed privately by arrangement.  See each course description for information.  All private rates are $250 for individual instruction.

Group Instruction
Groups and organizations can arrange for instruction in WNC or on site.  For convenience, gyms, clubs and schools can arrange for any of these courses to be instructed in your area. Please contact the office if you have any questions regarding setting up a course in your area. AMI can arrange courses for the boy scouts climbing merit badge. If your club or climbing partners wants to have a course specifically for your group, AMI can arrange a course in your area or here in WNC.
