Intermediate Rock Course
This course is for those who have experienced
climbing and are ready to start following leaders
up routes, cleaning gear, belaying a leader and
wanting to second routes. A good partner efficiently
cleans and organizes the protection, is solid
at the lead belay technique, and is ready to rescue
the leader if needed. The goal of this course
is to set the foundation for competently seconding
routes by developing your skills and knowledge
of technical skills needed to second climbs.
This two-day
course lays the foundation of skills for the AMI
Advanced Rock Course, and AMI Expert Rock Course.
Topics follows the instructional progression of:
fundamental skills, belay management, protection
systems, ascending, descending, and rescue skills.
The AMI Intermediate Rock Course focuses on teaching
you the skills of knots, rope management, lead
belay technique, removing protection, and racking
gear for cleaning a pitch. Next, descending skills
are taught including, rappel setup variations
and safety backups. The rescue component will
instruct you on how to rescue a leader and how
to rescue yourself. Most of all, you will develop
the skills needed to analyze the situation and
determine the safest possible solution. During
the course, you will get to practice leading with
feedback.

Participants
must have prior climbing experience top roping,
belaying, and comfortably climbing 5.6 routes.
The AMI Rock Intro is a recommended prerequisite
if you have not had much experience with climbing.
